Calls Congressional Candidate ‘Clear Choice’ to Fix Washington

KINDERHOOK, NY … May 25, 2016 — John Faso (R-Kinderhook), the endorsed Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform party candidate, today announced his latest endorsement in the race for the 19th Congressional District.

Former state Supreme Court and Appellate Division Justice Michael Kavanagh gave Faso his backing, calling the conservative reformer, “a public servant who shares my ideals and the ideals of the district where he has lived for more than three decades. John and I have known each other for many years and he is the clear choice for voters fed up with Washington and looking for strong, conservative leadership. He will make a superb Congressman.”

A longtime Ulster County District Attorney, Justice Kavanagh was elected to the Supreme Court in 1998 and was appointed to the Appellate Division, First Department in 2006. In 2008 he earned a bipartisan appointment to the Appellate Division, Third Department. Justice Kavanagh retired from the bench in 2012 and joined the National Arbitration and Mediation panel.

“Justice Kavanagh was a jurist of the highest integrity and it showed: He earned accolades from all sides during his time on the Supreme Court and Appellate Division. I am grateful for his support,” said Faso.

Faso is running to fill the seat now held by Congressman Chris Gibson (R), who is not seeking re-election. As a member of the New York Assembly, Faso developed and pushed proposals that led to real balanced budgets – including the first reduction in state spending in decades while closing a $5 billion deficit. He championed legislation that made a difference for tens of thousands of families such as the STAR program and education and real property tax reform. A former board member of the Rockefeller Institute of Government, Faso also served for three years as a member of the Control Board that worked to fix the financial and managerial issues of the City of Buffalo and its school system.

Mr. Faso and his wife, Mary Frances, a registered nurse, are the proud parents of two children. They have lived in Kinderhook, New York, for more than three decades.
