Candidate criticizes opponent’s liberal billionaire bankrollers

Kinderhook, NY … October 7, 2016 – John Faso, the Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform candidate in the 19th Congressional District, today criticized his opponent Professor Zephyr Teachout’s hypocritical posturing on campaign finance in light of news that a group backed by liberal billionaires is entering the race to help her buy a seat in the 19th Congressional District. Teachout has called for a New York City-style campaign finance law that will cost hundreds of millions of dollars and force taxpayers to pay for negative attack ads and mail.

“Professor Teachout hypocritically takes money from billionaires while she lectures our residents about money in politics. Now she’s calling on Sean Eldridge and Facebook to help her buy a seat here, just as New York City billionaires and Super PAC mega-donors tried to do two years ago against Congressman Chris Gibson. Once again, Zephyr Teachout treats our residents like they’re dumb. But voters will reject her radical liberal agenda this election just like they did Sean Eldridge’s phony campaign in 2014,” said Faso.

According to a report in Politico, Teachout will receive the support of Every Voice, a liberal outside group, and its Super PAC Every Voice Action, funded by the likes of the billionaire hedge-funder George Soros family, failed Congressional candidate Sean Eldridge and Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes. George Soros’ son Jonathan threw a lavish New York City fundraiser for Teachout in September. The Soros family has donated tens of thousands of dollars to Teachout’s campaign, according to FEC records.

“Professor Teachout is taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from big-government radicals to force you to pay hundreds of millions for taxpayer-funded campaigns to benefit her liberal politician friends,” Faso said.

John Faso worked with both sides of the political aisle and pushed proposals that led to real balanced budgets – including the first reduction in state spending in decades while closing a $5 billion deficit.

He championed legislation that made a difference for tens of thousands of families such as the STAR program and education and real property tax reform. A former board member of the Rockefeller Institute of Government, Faso also served for three years as a member of the Control Board that worked to fix the financial and managerial issues of the City of Buffalo and its school system. Faso is running on the Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform lines in November’s general election.

Mr. Faso and his wife, Mary Frances, a registered nurse, are the proud parents of two children. They have lived in Kinderhook, New York, for more than three decades.
