Second Registered Democrat Mayor to Endorse Faso in the Past Week
Valatie, NY – The Faso for Congress campaign announced Village of Fort Plain Mayor Thomas Quackenbush has endorsed John Faso in the race against Antonio Delgado in New York’s 19th Congressional District. Mayor Quackenbush is the second mayor who is a registered Democrat to endorse Faso’s campaign in the past week.
“John has been a great partner at the federal level for local communities like the Village of Fort Plain. I am happy to endorse him in his race for Congress in the 19th district. John understands the challenges that communities like ours face and I know he will continue to deliver at the federal level for us.” — Thomas Quackenbush, Mayor, Village of Fort Plain
“It’s a pleasure to have the endorsement from Mayor Quackenbush, who has been a long-time advocate for the Village of Fort Plain and the surrounding region,” said Faso. “I am committed to working with him to address the needs of our communities by making Upstate New York more economically competitive, expanding broadband access, and combating the opioid crisis.”
John Faso is a member of the Bipartisan Heroin Task Force that is focused on finding solutions and developing a legislative agenda to address the opioid epidemic. Faso has worked with local health experts, treatment specialists, families and law enforcement to ensure our communities have access to resources aimed at treating, educating and preventing opioid abuse.
In Congress, Faso also successfully advocated for passage of two bills to address challenges. His bill, H.R. 1057, the STOP Act, was the basis of H.R. 5788, the Securing International Mail Against Opioids Act, to help prevent the easy ship of synthetic opioids like fentanyl through the U.S. Postal System. He also was the leader sponsor H.R. 5685 which requires more education for seniors in the Medicare program about opioids and potential alternative treatments.
Recognizing that access to high speed broadband is vital to rural areas, John Faso has been working with local leaders and telecom officials to find funding opportunities and improve the programs aimed at helping our area. In the FY18 omnibus, which was signed into law with Congressman Faso’s support, $600 million is reserved for a new program under the USDA’s Rural Utilities Service (RUS) to expand rural broadband.
In addition he recently hosted a forum to discuss broadband expansion and the impact of a USDA’s new $600 million grant program that Faso supported. Earlier in the year, Faso hosted USDA Head of Rural Development, Ann Hazlett, to Upstate to share firsthand the challenges facing our communities.
