Radical Professor Doesn’t Believe Obamacare Goes Far Enough!

Kinderhook, N.Y. November 1, 2016 With open enrollment for Obamacare beginning today, voters should know that its rates are skyrocketing for New York’s struggling middle class: They’ll go up  another 16.6 percent on average in New York and upwards of 25 percent elsewhere, yet liberal New York City professor and NY-19 congressional candidate Zephyr Teachout wants to expand the failing program even more, the campaign of fiscally responsible congressional candidate John Faso today noted.

Obamacare will cost U.S. taxpayers hundreds of billions over the next 10 years and increase the nation’s already massive deficit, while the number of insurance companies participating in Obamacare will plummet from  232 to 167 in 2017 alone, according to estimates. Countless New Yorkers have already lost insurance plans since Obamacare was forced through, some multiple times.

“Obamacare is a perfect example of what happens when a liberal elite in Washington decides that it knows better than the American citizen,” Mr. Faso said. “How many times did we hear from the elites that we’d be able keep our doctors and save money, only to see this disaster unfold? I am stunned, frankly, that the Professor continues, not only to defend Obamacare, but to press for an even more expensive and expanded version of it.”

Mr. Faso called on Professor Teachout to explain to middle class New Yorkers being hit with double-digit insurance premium hikes why the Washington elites were right on Obamacare — and why even more taxpayer spending is warranted.

“There are concrete things we can do within a free-market economy to lower the cost of insurance premiums, while preserving a strong social safety net,” Mr. Faso added. “The big government solutions Professor Teachout favors end up doing more harm than good.”

Faso believes the existing health care law should be repealed and replaced with a plan that allows for flexible spending or HSA accounts for all people — not just those who work for big companies or government; that there should be more insurance options with fewer mandates that drive up premiums but also cover catastrophic care without crippling deductible payments; and that there should be more incentives for doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Faso is running to fill the seat now held by Congressman Chris Gibson (R), who is not seeking re-election. As a member of the New York Assembly, Faso developed and pushed proposals that led to real balanced budgets – including the first reduction in state spending in decades while closing a $5 billion deficit. He championed legislation that made a difference for tens of thousands of families such as the STAR program and education and real property tax reform. A former board member of the Rockefeller Institute of Government, Faso also served for three years as a member of the Control Board that worked to fix the financial and managerial issues of the City of Buffalo and its school system.

Mr. Faso and his wife, Mary Frances, a registered nurse, are the proud parents of two children. They have lived in Kinderhook, New York, for more than three decades.

John Faso (R-Kinderhook) is former Republican leader of the state Assembly and candidate for Congress in the 19th Congressional district. To learn more about Faso, visit johnfaso.com.
