Largest Business Advocacy Org Praises Candidate’s Plan for Economic Reform
New Paltz, NY — September 26, 2016 … The US Chamber of Commerce has endorsed John Faso, the Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform candidate for Congress in the 19th District, his campaign announced today. The announcement took place at a press conference at Viking Industries, Inc., in New Paltz, Ulster County. Other press conference participants included Viking Industries President Richard Croce; Harold King, Manufacturers Alliance of NYS; and Zack Hutchins, Business Council of New York State.
Faso is running on a platform of economic growth, private-sector job creation and tax and regulatory reform. He released a comprehensive Jobs Plan earlier this year that emphasized reforming the tax code, eliminating burdensome regulations, and encouraging investment in small businesses such as Viking Industries. Specifically, the plan would:
- Provide for the full expensing of new equipment and technology purchases up front rather than deducting the cost over several years, which would lead to increased economic growth and incentivize local investment.
- Reduce the federal corporate income tax rate from 35 to 20 percent, encouraging more good jobs to stay in the United States.
- Change the subchapter “S corporation” rules in the tax code to ensure that small businesses are not paying higher marginal tax rates than corporations.
- Reform the Dodd-Frank financial regulations to remove unnecessary paperwork requirements on community banks and promote increased lending to local businesses.
- End double taxation and switch to a territorial tax system that returns US corporate earnings to reinvest here.
- Establish clear timetables for regulatory review of economic development projects to reduce red tape.
Faso was endorsed by the National Federation of Independent Business on August 25, the nation’s leading small business group, for his commitment to a pro-growth, pro-small-business economic vision.
Viking Industries is a family-owned manufacturer of paper packages and containers employing approximately 60 people in New Paltz. In recent years, Viking added equipment to produce corrugated boxes and die cuts as well. A brief tour of Viking’s factory preceded the endorsement announcement.
“I’m grateful to have earned the endorsement of the Chamber of Commerce as well as the backing of the Manufacturers Alliance and Business Council. Our country is on the wrong track and the status quo is not working for the local small businesses that create jobs and keep our communities strong. Small businesses create approximately 70% of all new jobs. If the voters of the 19th District honor me with their vote, I will be a leading voice for their cause,” said Faso.
Geoffrey O’Hara, Vice President, Regional Affairs and Advocacy, of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce stated: “John Faso has a strong record of working to create jobs and grow the economy. His leadership is needed to represent New York’s 19th Congressional District. I am proud to stand with businesses here in the Hudson Valley to offer John the endorsement of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.”
“I’ve had the pleasure of knowing John Faso for many years and have seen firsthand the positive impact he has had on job creation and his singular focus on improving the economy of New York State and the lives of his fellow New Yorkers,” said Heather C. Briccetti, president and CEO of The Business Council of New York State, Inc. “As a lifelong resident of the Hudson Valley, John knows what’s important to the voters in the 19th Congressional District and will be an outstanding advocate on their behalf.”
“We are pleased to be standing here today on behalf of MANUPAC, the political action committee for the Manufacturers Alliance of New York State, endorsing John Faso for Congress. John is exactly what our district needs for representation in Washington, DC: he understands the issues, he knows what our community and business climate needs are, and most importantly, he can effectively bring that message to Washington. Our critical and yet vulnerable sector needs a strong pro-business voice for us, both in Washington and the district, and we believe John Faso to be just that,” said Harold King, Executive Vice President of the Council of Industry, a member MANUPAC.
Faso is running to fill the seat now held by Congressman Chris Gibson (R), who is not seeking re-election. As a member of the New York Assembly, Faso developed and pushed proposals that led to real balanced budgets – including the first reduction in state spending in decades while closing a $5 billion deficit. He championed legislation that made a difference for tens of thousands of families such as the STAR program and education and real property tax reform. A former board member of the Rockefeller Institute of Government, Faso also served for three years as a member of the Control Board that worked to fix the financial and managerial issues of the City of Buffalo and its school system.
Mr. Faso and his wife, Mary Frances, a registered nurse, are the proud parents of two children. They have lived in Kinderhook, New York, for more than three decades.
