“Congratulations to Zephyr Teachout on a hard fought race that was closely watched not only by those living in the 19th Congressional District, but by people all over the nation. What we’ve heard today is that citizens are deeply concerned about our country; that they care about its future; and they want a government that works for them and gets things done. They’re tired of gridlock, games and the 24-hour spin cycle and punditry. To those people, I say, I hear you loud and clear. “By the turnout today, the American people have said that they want us to work together to solve problems. They demand that we put aside our partisan impulses and work for the common good of all. That is what I plan to do and I will need to your help and your prayers to make sure we do the right things. Our best days are ahead of us, but only if we hear the voices of the American people and act – as Lincoln said – ‘touched by the better angels of our nature.’ I’m determined that we can change our nation for the better and ensure that we leave our children and grandchildren with a shared inheritance of prosperity, security and opportunity for all. “May God Bless You and may God Bless America.” John Faso (R-Kinderhook) is former Republican leader of the state Assembly and candidate for Congress in the 19th Congressional district. Faso Earns Endorsements of Albany Times Union, New York Post
Record, Ability to Get Things Done Among Faso’s Strengths Kinderhook, NY — November 3, 2016 … John Faso, the Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform candidate for Congress in the 19th District, has earned the endorsements of the Albany Times Union and the New York Post, his campaign announced today. In supporting Faso in editorials today, both Editorial Boards cite Faso’s record, platform and his ability to get things done. The Post applauded Faso’s agenda and says he “understands the need to grow the economy via lower, simpler taxes and streamlined regulations,” while criticizing his opponent for being an “Occupy Wall Street backer” who is a lot less idealistic than she pretends. The ATU says Faso would be a moderate voice in Congress who understands the value of compromise and “would not waste time on pointless party-line votes.” Read the NY Post endorsement here and the Albany Times Union endorsement here. Faso is running on a platform of economic growth, private-sector job creation and tax and regulatory reform. He released a comprehensive Jobs Plan earlier this year that emphasized reforming the tax code, eliminating burdensome regulations, and encouraging investment in small businesses. Faso is running to fill the seat now held by Congressman Chris Gibson (R), who is not seeking re-election. As a member of the New York Assembly, Faso developed and pushed proposals that led to real balanced budgets – including the first reduction in state spending in decades while closing a $5 billion deficit. He championed legislation that made a difference for tens of thousands of families such as the STAR program and education and real property tax reform. A former board member of the Rockefeller Institute of Government, Faso also served for three years as a member of the Control Board that worked to fix the financial and managerial issues of the City of Buffalo and its school system. IF YOU LIKE OBAMACARE, YOU’LL LOVE PROFESSOR TEACHOUT
Radical Professor Doesn’t Believe Obamacare Goes Far Enough! Kinderhook, N.Y. November 1, 2016… With open enrollment for Obamacare beginning today, voters should know that its rates are skyrocketing for New York’s struggling middle class: They’ll go up another 16.6 percent on average in New York and upwards of 25 percent elsewhere, yet liberal New York City professor and NY-19 congressional candidate Zephyr Teachout wants to expand the failing program even more, the campaign of fiscally responsible congressional candidate John Faso today noted. Obamacare will cost U.S. taxpayers hundreds of billions over the next 10 years and increase the nation’s already massive deficit, while the number of insurance companies participating in Obamacare will plummet from 232 to 167 in 2017 alone, according to estimates. Countless New Yorkers have already lost insurance plans since Obamacare was forced through, some multiple times. “Obamacare is a perfect example of what happens when a liberal elite in Washington decides that it knows better than the American citizen,” Mr. Faso said. “How many times did we hear from the elites that we’d be able keep our doctors and save money, only to see this disaster unfold? I am stunned, frankly, that the Professor continues, not only to defend Obamacare, but to press for an even more expensive and expanded version of it.” Mr. Faso called on Professor Teachout to explain to middle class New Yorkers being hit with double-digit insurance premium hikes why the Washington elites were right on Obamacare — and why even more taxpayer spending is warranted. “There are concrete things we can do within a free-market economy to lower the cost of insurance premiums, while preserving a strong social safety net,” Mr. Faso added. “The big government solutions Professor Teachout favors end up doing more harm than good.” Faso believes the existing health care law should be repealed and replaced with a plan that allows for flexible spending or HSA accounts for all people — not just those who work for big companies or government; that there should be more insurance options with fewer mandates that drive up premiums but also cover catastrophic care without crippling deductible payments; and that there should be more incentives for doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Teachout, Dems Back Dishonest Ad
Faso challenges Teachout to defend television spot’s demonstrably false claim or remove it
SEE LEGAL LETTER HERE.
Kinderhook, NY … October 31, 2016 – John Faso, the Republican, Conservative, Independent and Reform candidate running for the 19th Congressional District, called on his opponent Zephyr Teachout to substantiate a recent Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) negative television advertisement or immediately direct the organization remove it from the airwaves, his campaign announced today. DCCC has spent more than $2 million in media advertising on behalf of Teachout’s campaign.
The 30-second ad, called “That’s Rich,” began airing on Albany broadcast markets last week. It asserts that Faso “supported a $175 million cut to college tuition assistance for middle-class families.” The claim is flatly incorrect. A cease-and-desist letter prepared by legal representation for Faso’s campaign was sent today to providers airing the commercial. That letter is attached to this release.
“Professor Teachout keeps telling voters she wants to treat them like adults. Here’s her chance — call on your well-heeled allies in the DCCC to remove this demonstrably false attack ad and run on your own merits,” said Faso.
The tuition-assistance “cut” in question appeared in Governor George Pataki’s 1997-98 proposed Executive Budget but was removed at the time Faso and others in the state Legislature voted on it in August 1997. Faso approved the budget.
In fact, the state comptroller’s Fiscal Review and Analysis of the enacted 1997-98 budget stated the following: “This year’s $175 million cut proposed by the Governor in the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) was completely removed.” Faso was joined by 139 other members in approving the budget bill.
The ad also misleadingly claims that Faso “repeatedly voted to raise taxes on middle-class families.” In fact, Faso crafted a budget that, according to the official state Tax and Finance Department report analyzing the personal income tax cut of 1995, is responsible for saving middle-class families across New York billions of dollars since it passed: for instance, a family of four with an income of $75,000 saw a tax cut of approximately $650 a year for the last 20 years. The ad goes on to claim that Faso supported “privatizing Social Security” based on a 2004 op-ed in the New York Times that expressed some support for the findings of former President Bush’s bipartisan Commission to Strengthen Social Security, in particular individual savings accounts for young workers in order to preserve the earned benefit and ensure its future solvency.
Teachout has also been called out for repeatedly lying about Faso’s voting attendance record while serving in the state Assembly as well as asserting that he opposed equal pay for equal work. Both claims have been debunked.
“If Zephyr Teachout takes no action to remove a transparently dishonest ad airing in her name, voters should take notice. This pattern of exaggerations, lies and false attacks will be remembered on November 8th for what it is: the desperate tactics of a politician with no connection to the district and no ideas for reducing the sky-high taxes driving too many families and businesses out of Upstate New York,” said Faso.

Teachout Stands By Clinton as Email Investigation Reopens
Is NYC liberal professor still ‘proud to support’ scandal-scarred politician? Kinderhook, NY … October 28, 2016 – Zephyr Teachout, the liberal New York City professor who moved Upstate this year to run for Congress, is standing with Hillary Clinton, the candidate she had previously denounced for her “four big corruption problems,” despite the Federal Bureau of Investigation reopening its criminal probe into Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state. Clinton has been criticized for alleged influence peddling at her family foundation as well. On Friday FBI director James Comey sent a letter to House committee chairmen announcing the law enforcement agency’s intention to reopen the case closed in July based upon the following findings: “In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to this investigation.” That “unrelated case” was subsequently revealed to have involved disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner. “Potentially compromising our nation’s most important security-related secrets is a serious concern. Like Chris Gibson, you’ll always know where I stand on keeping Americans safe,” said Faso. “Zephyr Teachout’s support for a politician she labeled as ‘corrupt’ as recently as last year should raise concerns about her commitment to objectivity and following the evidence where it leads. So is she still standing with Hillary Clinton or not?” Comey’s July report did not recommend charges but uncovered nearly 15,000 emails Clinton and her attorneys had not turned over to the FBI. Comey characterized the manner in which Clinton and her aides handled classified information as “extremely careless.” “Corruption in America” author and liberal activist Teachout called Clinton corrupt in a 2015 op-ed, specifically referencing the Clinton Foundation’s cozy relationship with corporations, lavish speaking fees from corporate clients, and the Democratic nominee’s support for the Super PACs bankrolling her campaign’s message. Teachout initially rationalized her Clinton support by remarking that “nobody’s perfect” in a July interview. Her Clinton flip-flop follows other hypocritical positions such as taking contributions from a known “dark money” group — whose donors are anonymous — and soliciting money from Super PAC mega-donors such as billionaire George Soros. Teachout has recently come under fire for her stated opposition to New York’s property tax cap and her support for a national energy tax, positions she publicly denies. “If Clinton or one of her aides intentionally hid evidence or mishandled secret information, it should disqualify her as commander-in-chief. What, exactly, would Clinton have to do to make Professor Teachout withhold her support? Voters here deserve to know, and a non-answer is still an answer,” said Faso. Teachout was exposed earlier this month in a WikiLeaks email exchange from March 4 in which she appears to bow to pressure from the Clinton campaign team to refrain from publicly supporting Democrat insurgent candidate Bernie Sanders prior to the April 19 presidential primary. Using Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand as a surrogate, Clinton officials effectively bought Teachout’s silence despite her endorsement of Sanders in a 2015 op-ed in which she attacked Clinton for her “four big corruption problems.” Published reports describe a Gillibrand fundraising email sent on March 31 on Teachout’s behalf. Clinton would go on to win New York. Faso is running on the Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform lines for Congress in the 19th Congressional District to fill the seat now held by Congressman Gibson (R), who is not seeking re-election. Testimonial: John Faso a “Fighter for Us”
Faso Ensured Passage of Jenna’s Law, which Eliminated Parole for Violent Felons Kinderhook, NY — October 28, 2016 … John Faso’s campaign today released its latest ad featuring a father whose daughter was murdered by a violent felon. And he wants people to know: “John Faso is a fighter, and a fighter for us.” Bruce Grieshaber is featured in the Faso campaign’s latest television advertisement, where the father shares the tragic story of his daughter Jenna’s murder, and the work that Faso did to ensure passage of a law named in her honor. “Jenna was murdered by a violent felon out on parole,” Grieshaber says. “Why was this animal on the streets?” He then explains that then Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver was trying to prevent Jenna’s Law, which eliminated parole for first time violent felons, from passing but Faso, who was Assembly Minority Leader at the time, didn’t allow that to happen. “Sheldon Silver tried to bottle it up, but John Faso was not going to have that,” Grieshaber says. “John is a fighter, and a fighter for us.” View the ad here. U.S. Must Reinforce its Diplomatic Presence Around the World KINDERHOOK, NY … October 27, 2016 — John Faso, who is running for the 19th Congressional district, today joined Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY21), local and regional emergency response and law enforcement agencies, students and local stakeholders in a frank discussion about national security and emergency preparedness. During the roundtable discussion, which was led by Rep. Stefanik, Vice Chair, House Armed Services Committee’s Subcommittee on Readiness at the nonpartisan Oneonta Vets Club in Oneonta, Faso emphasized the need to strengthen our military, modernize our weapons systems and ensure our forces are well equipped around the globe — while also streamlining expensive and burdensome procurement procedures. “The United States’s presence must be known and felt in unstable regions around the world,” Faso said. “We must respond to security threats at home and abroad while simultaneously reinforcing our diplomatic presence. We need leaders in Congress who understand the complex threats that face us and are willing to stand up to the president when necessary, and work with fellow lawmakers to ensure our nation’s safety.” Read more about Faso’s national security plans here. In attendance were law enforcement and emergency responders from Delaware, Schoharie and Otsego counties. Specific topics that came up from stakeholders were serious threats from Iran, ISIS, radical islamic terrorism, the potential spread of nuclear weapons around the world, securing our own borders and preventing acts of terrorism at home and abroad. Also discussed were issues of opioid abuse, treatment and response; the need for better cell service and broadband and the securing resources for law enforcement. “We face a wide range of serious threats throughout the world that threaten the safety and security of our nation,” said Rep. Stefanik. “We need people in Congress who understand these dangers and can work with others to ensure our national and homeland defenses are up to the challenge. I believe John Faso is that kind of leader, and I’m grateful for his participation in today’s important discussion.” Faso is running on the Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform lines in November’s general election.
